Outdoor School Prep!

As we prepare for outdoor school, here are a few comments and reminders.

So far the long-range forecast is looking great! Having said that, please ensure that your child brings
the following items (as per the packing list sent in the original package):

  1. Basic Daily clothing that can be layered
  • 1-2 Pyjamas
  • 2-3 Sweaters /hoodies
  • 2 Pants (comfortable ones that can go under the snow pants)
  • 2-3 T-shirts
  • 4-6 Pairs of socks (extra is an easy addition!)
  • 4-6 Underwear (may get damp under snow pants)
  • Slippers, thick socks or indoor shoes for the lodges and dorms
Remember, that your child will have a layer on when they head to school. So if they are wearing a
hoodie, they may not need 3 more!

  1. Outer layers (clothing that is warm/water resistant)
  • Rain pants (may not need as we will wear snow pants)
  • Winter Jacket/Snow pants (Will NEED every day)
  • Warm Mittens  (light thin cotton are fine as an extra layer, try to have non-cotton)
  • Running shoes/hiking shoes
  • Warm winter boots (lined)
  • Thermal long underwear bottoms and top Warm layer (i.e. fleece)
  • Warm socks (i.e. smart wool or wool)
  • Toque
  • Day pack ( can use school backpack if you empty out) and a water bottle
We will have opportunities to head into the many buildings and lodges throughout our day.
We will work with the students to help prepare them for each day. The dorms have hooks for clothing
and they will be reminded to hang their outdoor clothing to dry. Some families have inquired about
hotshot hand & feet warmers. Students are welcome to bring these if they want. Costco, sports chek
and many other places sell them (not mandatory).
  1. Personal items for hygiene:
It can be helpful if personal items are packed in a large Ziploc bag with the student’s name.
This is easy to take to the shower or washroom each day.
  • Toothbrush & Toothpaste
  • Lip Balm
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses (optional)
  • Soap/Shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Comb or Hair Brush
  • Towel(s)
  • A plastic bag for wet or dirty clothing items
  • Sleeping bag or sheets, a blanket & pillow. We recommend all students bring a sheet for under their
  • sleeping bag/blanket. All bedding should be packed into a stuff sack or a garbage bag
(Please label the bag and ask your child to save if for return packing).
  • Blanket
  • Flashlight/Headlamp
  • Personal Medications (place in large Ziploc with child’s name and teacher’s name.
Any medication that is sent MUST be listed on the blue forms. The blue forms will be placed into the
child’s bag and cross-referenced. If you missed anything, please contact your homeroom teacher to edit
your blue form.
Feel free to send an extra sheet and blanket in their bedding bag. We also have access to the washer/dryer
as well.

  1.  Fun and comfort! (for the evening and am quiet time)
  • Musical instrument
  • Books/Journal/drawing
  • Stuffie
  • A small item for comfort
Each student is responsible for their items. Putting initials on items can help students locate their
belongings quickly. Teachers and counsellors will provide reminders to dress appropriately for the
weather and hang belongings to dry. Students will arrive Monday morning with all their items neatly
packed (no loose items). They will check-in with their homeroom teacher prior to loading the bus
(hand in Medication bags) and are responsible for getting their items to the bus and from the bus to the
dorm.
When packing your items, please pack
-clothing/personal items into ONE duffel bag or ONE luggage bag (some students use their
ringette/hockey bag). There is room near or under bunks for student luggage.

-Bedding can be in ONE stuff sag or labelled garbage bag
-ONE backpack/day pack (with a water bottle).

One week to go! We are looking forward to this opportunity!
