Photos and Thank you's

Both classes have finished presenting their Book Club projects yesterday. It turned out to be a huge success, and it was fascinating to see all of the hard work students have done at home! Rubric with comments will be sent home with students today. This project was not given a number grade, instead each student will receive a page with teacher feedback. Please read the comments and discuss areas of growth as well as strengths.

Thank you to the families who participated in making delicious treats for everyone to share! There were more than enough goodies to go around. It definitely felt like a real cafe as we discussed interesting books and shared some hot cocoa.

Enjoy the few pictures that were taken during our time on Friday!

This week we both classes are exploring the many ways to look at and critique Abstract Art. We have been focusing on the colour, shape, movement, artistic technique and emotion which is drawn from observing different types of Abstract Art. We have experienced interesting conversations between the two classes about the artist's intention, as well as how the audience's perception will always be different.

It is important to find the right words to use when describing a piece of art by considering the emotions which arise within us. Students were able to look at some pieces and consider how certain shapes and colours can be symbolic to the world around us. Art can also be compared to life experiences or other forms of art we have been exposed to.

Here is a handful of pieces we have been critiquing.
