Fairy Tales, Chemistry and Calculations

Now that we have spent some time learning about the different regions of Canada, we are going to switch gears for our next project. We read, Seriously, Snow White is so Forgetful by Nancy Leowen. We discussed the elements of fractured stories, which include a twist, changed characters and modern details. We also listened The TRUE Story of the 3 Little Pigs read aloud https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB07RfntTvw&t=337s . We dissected the character of the Wolf and compared him to the original Big Bad Wolf.

Students are creating their own fractured characters from classic fairy tales, and will later on write their own fractured story. Their current task is to write a proper paragraph about their character.

In science, we have started the Chemistry Unit! Students are currently looking at States of Matter.   They should be able to answer the following questions: What is matter? What is matter made of?   What are the states of matter? We will be moving into lab safety, scientific format and simple experiments.

In Math, students have reviewed metric units and graphing. We are currently working on area and perimeter. Students are about to start a classroom measurement activity where they will measure the classroom in order to calculate its perimeter and area.
